Fort Moultrie

Fort Moultrie is a unit of Fort Sumter National Monument. The current Fort Moultrie was built in 1809 and was active in every war through World War II. The current fort replaced two prior forts on this site; the first of which was a palmetto log fort built in 1776. The fort is now managed by the National Park Service, and open to visitors everyday 9AM to 5PM with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Days.

To resist invasion, defend our shores, and protect our nation, Fort Moultire stood as a ready sentinel at the entrance to Charleston Harbor for more than 170 years.

Welcome to the Official Fort Moultrie Facebook Page. We hope this will become a place where fans feel comfortable sharing information and experiences, about the coastal defensive system which was anchored by Fort Moultrie for 171 years, with one another.

The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the
